The book first tells the story about Penn State's founding in 1855 and quickly gets to the first American football game in 1867. From there, the progression leads, to the Penn State's first football game in 1881, then to the first Penn State Football coach George Hoskins in 1892, and of course to the great immortal Penn State coaches Hugo Bezdek, Bob Higgins, Rip Engle, and Joe Paterno to the current season.
